About Us

Carol of Africa is a boutique agency specialising in luxury safaris into Africa. Our focus is on South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Seychelles, Zanzibar and Mauritius. We design and plan extraordinary wildlife safari experiences in some of Africa’s wildest and most sought-after areas as well as relaxing Indian Ocean Island holidays.

Travelling in Africa isn’t always simple, and we have found that many travellers, when planning a safari, make the fundamental error of booking ‘package safaris’ offered by large Tour Operators. Alternatively, they go online and just book a lodge without considering the logistics of how to get from point ‘a’ to point ‘b’.

Africa has so much to offer, and we have found that our safaris generally fall into 5 categories:

Whichever category your trip falls into, we design, plan, and co-ordinate each trip individually to suit your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

July through November is usually considered the best time to visit Kenya and Tanzania to view the Great Migration. Between the months of July and August, the wildebeest move en masse into Kenya’s Maasai Mara, crossing the Mara River in staggering numbers. For travellers, these river crossings rank among the most sought-after moments of the Great Migration and is certainly a sight to behold!

Because our animals are wild and are free to roam here in South Africa, seeing them all in one day or on one game drive is never guaranteed however the likelihood of seeing the Big 5 is very high if one spends 4-6 nights in the bush, particularly in the Sabi Sands/ Kruger National Park area.

Our winter months are best because the bush isn’t as prolific however anytime of year in the bush is wonderful and often the summer months offer more competitive pricing.

We recommend neutral safari clothing for your African travels. This includes shades of khaki, brown, beige/tan, and green. These colours blend in well with the bush and are best suited to safari travel for a few important reasons. Leave the heels and glad rags behind – when you’re out in the bush, comfort is of utmost importance. Light, airy layers that you don’t mind getting dirty are best suited to game drives, walks and hikes.

There is so much to see and do in Africa. Some considerations are a stopover in Cape Town or a trip on the luxurious Rovos Rail. You can visit the mighty Victoria Falls and spend a few days in Mauritius or the Seychelles too. If you’re not sure what to do, we will assist you in making the best decision for you.
